Luiz Bonfá (1922-2001) is one of the most influential Brazilian guitarists and composers.

An emblematic figure of the bossa nova movement, he helped bring Brazilian music to the world in the late 1950s and 1960s. Bonfá gained international fame through his work on Black Orpheus, which won an Oscar in the category "Best Foreign Language Film". Trained in classical guitar, he develops a very personal style, combining technical precision and deep lyricism. His music bridges Brazilian rhythms, jazz harmony and classical sensitivity.
